Powerboat Handling & Safety
Whether you’re new to boating or have years of experience at the helm, Powerboat Handling & Boat Control Training is designed to build real confidence behind the wheel. This hands-on course focuses on the practical skills every boater needs to safely operate and control their vessel in real-world conditions.
Unlike classroom-only programs, this training takes place on the water, where you’ll learn how your boat responds to throttle, steering, wind, and current. Under the guidance of an experienced USCG Licensed Master Captain, you’ll practice the techniques used by professional captains to maneuver safely and efficiently.
Students will develop a strong understanding of vessel control while practicing critical boating skills such as:
• Docking and undocking techniques
• Close-quarters maneuvering in marinas
• Controlling your boat in wind and current
• Throttle and steering coordination
• Understanding pivot points and boat movement
• Safe approach and departure from docks and fuel docks
• Emergency stopping and avoidance techniques
• Situational awareness and safe decision making on the water
Training can be conducted on your boat or a training vessel, allowing you to learn in the environment where you normally operate. This approach helps students quickly apply the techniques they learn and gain the confidence needed to operate their boat safely with family, friends, or crew aboard.
This course is ideal for:
• New boat owners who want to start off with proper training
• Experienced boaters looking to improve docking and boat control
• Couples or families who want to share operating responsibilities
• Yacht owners preparing for coastal cruising
By the end of the training, you’ll have a clearer understanding of how your boat handles and the skills needed to operate it safely and confidently in a wide range of conditions.
Available as a one- or two-day program depending on experience level.
Private instruction and small group sessions available.
